Ascophyllum nodosum is a brown seaweed of the northern Atlantic Ocean, also known as Norwegian kelp. It harvested fresh from the coast and dehydrated, and then ground to a dusty flour size. Kelp meal is very rich in minerals, trace elements, vitamins and complex carbohydrates (soluble fiber). Normally used in a fishfood mix at 5-10%, it can also be sprinkled over the surface to feed small crustaceans (shrimps) and filtrators. Kelp has been seen to increase growth and resistance to disease.
